  • ...

i have The Shame right now...more than i've had it in a long time...i apologize to anyone and everyone at Tino's BBQ last night...

dream: Michael Palmer was made poet laureate of the U.S.A... i was in India in a Costo-like-store searching for a small box of sushi, all i could find were stacks upon stacks of ugly pastel sweatshirts...was undercover, with Andrew Macarthy and Rob Lowe, in an evil supernatural cult headed by Lauren Kohne...invited ghosts to talk to me, when they did, woke myself up screaming...

my brother arrives on wednesday...i'm more excited about that than anything...i rented a car so we'll explore CO a bit...

    i have The Shame...big time...

watched School Of Rock which was great...watched Shaun of the Dead which totally sucked...

i've been gorging on cherries and watermelon (watermelon in Greek is karpoozi...my all time favorite greek word, "signomi, echete karpoozi vree?")

who wants to take a "ghetto-bath" with me...?!

what's a ghetto-bath you ask?...a ghetto-bath (ghetto bathing that is) is what i occasionally do after a long night of drinking, a ghetto-bath is palmolive dish soap, a ghetto-bath is a submerged rolled up sock instead of a drain stopper, a ghetto-bath is lukewarm water, a ghetto-bath has a physical diameter of 5 ft not quite fitting my 6'5 frame...weird day yesterday: weird meaning rum, vodka tonics, chichi shots and two $1 bottles of zinfandel...wooter...cough...eh...snort...hack...

and then i watched Eli Roth's Hostel...which i loved...coming to realize i enjoy Roth's special DVD "featurettes" almost as much as the movies he makes...Cabin Fever and Hostel are most definitly in the house...

watched Capote...snor...i mean yeah it was great all all that...but boring...snor...and i don't agree with Koshkin's assertion that the writer and director copped out of portraying Truman's homosexuality...thing is, Capote isn't a bio pic...it's about his book In Cold Blood and the events leading up and proceeding from the experience of writing that book...Capote's homosexuality had nothing to do with it...

here's some books i read last week:

    1. Night Season- Mark Lamoureux (Dusie) (mark has a great last name)
    2. Caricature- Daniel Clowes (Fantagraphics Books) (i'm on his nuts big time...though SF homeboy Zwigoff needs to stop making second rate adaptations)
    3. Young Gods and Friends- Barry Windsor-Smith (Fantagraphics Books) (sucked the bag...for real though...BWS's "introduction" as self-fellacio-fest is enough to make you want to kick his mother's ass)
    4. The Bus- Lauren Kohne (self-published) (fucking loved it...as you well know, Lauren is one of my favorite SF artists...this new comic as chapbook as travelogue is the beat...)
    5. Waiting For Food #3- Robert Crumb (Drawn & Quarterly) (is saying you like Crumb tantamount to saying you like Radiohead? is it passe yet...?..."i'm totally more underground than you")
    6. Nova- Samuel R. Delany (Vintage) (Chip and i have sat next to each other two summers running post SWP ish at the Boulderado...he's sort of my favorite sci-fi writer of all time...and i can tell you what kind of cheese he likes...)
    7. Talschlusse- Hartmut Abendschein (Dusie) (it's in german...what up BB?!...what up Angie?!...what up Shakespeare?!)
    8. Loud Soft Silent- Joseph Cooper, Jared Hayes, Liz Guthrie, Andy Peterson (Hot Whiskey Reading Series #1) (a beautiful book as accompaniment to the reading...where i was drunk...and yellling stuff...and seriously considering hitting on a couple of highschool girls...)
    9. The Peripheral Space Of Photography- Murat Nemet-Nejat (Green Integer) (Murat is my fav!)
    10. Cusp- Jocelyn Saidenberg (Kelsey St. Press) (hi Jocelyn...holy shit finally read Cusp...holy shit loved it...go Francis Jaffer award!!!)

so, this is my new friend Zarah...she's a derby-girl...she kicks ass (like bruises "kicks ass")...i'm totally facinated with derby-girls at the moment (and not JUST because of Bravo)...i'm thinking of writing a chapbook length series called Derby-Girl...i'm thinking of formulating a series of "interview" questions to ask Zarah and her teammates...taking those questions and making a roller-rink "bout" out of it a la Bhanu Kapil's The Vertical Interogation Of Strangers...i think this might be a useful way of getting out of the "head" of my current manuscript Mouf...what say you?

if you think it, it will happen (at least that's what my boss Joe Conway told me this morning (my disdain for the state of Naropa's grounds/ buildings is well documented/ noted within the archives))...Naropa is getting a huge facelift...the facade and original bell-tower of the Lincoln Building are being restored...the parking lot is being repaved...new gardens are being tended...new windows being installed in the Upaya cottages...oh joy! i'm in heaven...Naropa has a huge problem with appearance...it's ugly...that's a fact...well not fair...one half of it is ugly...the area encompassing the Ginsberg Library and the admin building is beautiful...everything else is gross...but not for long!

ugly Lincoln Building soon to be beautiful!!!

  • didn't do much this weekend...mostly stayed in my boxers and watched baseball and television movies...drank a bunch of Rolling Rock beer in lament of Anheiser Busch buying them out...

the Hot Whiskey reading staring Jared Hayes, Joe Cooper, Andy Peterson and Liz Guthrie was great...officially a belated Insuring The Wicker Man release reading but mostly a collaborative event between the four readers, it was like watching some kind of deranged-Burroughs-inspired troubodour recital...i was more than a little perved when i showed up so there was a lot of hooting and hollering from me in the back, Hollo looked annoyed...

read a bunch of books that i'll list later...

decided that i need to stop dicking around and get to some serious work on projects while i have the free time here in boulder...i've been reading too much, neglecting my own work...so, that's a resolution...

i'm at work right now about to finish up a Berkson tape from 78'...

    Parker Zane Allen 1979-2006

one of our best friends (SF group), Parker Zane Allen, passed away last night in his apartment in San Francisco...

...from his mom "Parker Zane Allen died late friday night after a two-year battle with lung cancer. He did not go gently. He fought to the last breath, but his heart simply stopped. He died in his mother's arms, with his father close by. He was only 26. Information regarding his memorial is pending...but it is sure to be a most raucous, irreverent, sarcastic celebration / Irish Wake. With love to you all, Zane's Mommie"...

we love you brother...i think i'm in shock...i don't know what else/ or how else to say anything right now...i love you Zane...

    FLOWERS

Traditional, Vibrant, say so many things.

You screwed up. Too drunk for breakfast, she cooked. Called you five times. Told her you were on your way every time. You never were.
Her scrambled eggs are always too soupy any way. And you hate bell peppers. You think she should know this by now, but she doesn’t, and you think it means something, but it doesn’t.
Swear you love her, as you get off the train by her house. Swear it and try to remember things that you have done. Try and remeber your second date. Don’t. Think about what this means.
Flouriest has a big glass window, hums with refrigeators. Pillars of orchid stared at you, frozen in color.
You poke around, you don’t know how to poke around. Touch leaves, test their firmness, touch the lips of a lilly. The flouriest, whom you have not seen tells you not to do that.
Apologized to a woman more attractive than your girlfriend. It smells in here. Think of how she smells outside of this place, covered in the oils of the petals, hands dusted with pollen, small cuts and scratches from the nettles and thorns.
Ask for roses, say: you guess…
    Who are these for?
    Say your mother.
She laughs and has great teeth, the kind that are white and kinked and crossed in all the right ways. Maybe you would like something more appropriate for mom. You would.
She does something with purple flowers that are soft and wavy, like slept in sheets. She does something with flowers you cannot pronounce even though she tells you three times. It doesn’t fit in your mouth. White things, sticks with tiny white pollips on the end, shake in her hand as she puts them in the bundle of purple and white and one red flower. her hands are shaking.
You end up clutching a bundle of color, you can’t really find a smell in it. It’s wrapped in tissue paper printed with cursive.
Walk down the street, and you should throw them away. You can’t throw them away. You should really. Your hands shake and she smiled and you can’t remember if you ever paid, she touched your hand while you paid and her name is Parja. Take the flowers home, call Charlotte and complain about the traffic and the weather and you’ll be there soon.

    MONKEYBARS

    Swing-Climb, Blisters, Dangerous

Pulling on her pigtails does not endear you to her, but she does know who you are because of it. Unfortunately she is under the impression that your name is Liverwurst-face because your mother makes you sandwiches from this pasty meat.
She has Golden blonde hair, blue eyes and occasionally colored band-aids on her knees.
The Band-Aids are a sure sign that she is not like the other girls, that she would build a fort with you, ninja about with tree branches and chase your large hairy dog Dumper around.
Eat the eraser off her pencil.
    She’ll give your yo-yo a haircut.
At the library you both go to because your parents can't pick you up until four, photocopy worms and write ‘YOU’ with three arrows.
She pours glitter on your head and says look how pretty Liver-face is.
Kick her chair for forty-five minutes while you are learning capitals.
    She won't say anything.
But in art class you catch a brushful of blue on your face.
Don't worry, this is how ten year olds flirt. You do physically what we adults do with words.
    Be thankful for it.
On tuesday, skin your knees sliding into home in kickball. You, coincidentally are out by a mile and the catcher takes particular pleasure dopping you on the head with the kickball. Go to 'coach' Willits, with his clip-board, whistle and paunch, and ask if you can go see the nurse. This will be okay, sissy.
Instead of going to the nurse, go to the monkeybars, lay down and bury yourself in the tambark up to your neck. Wait ten minutes until recess.
She will come by eventually, with her friends. They are always on the Monkeybars. She will float on by, tiny swinging legs, and untied lace almost catches your nose, a fresh band-aid on her knee, she wears shorts, so you can't see her underthings, but her hair dazzles in the sun and bursts from her head like a firework and her short straining arms make perfect underhand strokes, carrying her, brilliant, bar to bar to bar.
Make a noise like a lion and grab her legs.
She will trill like a cartire.
She will drop from the bars and wriggle like a fish in your bear hug
She will scrunch up her face, lemoned up in fury and will punch you in the nose, her coin machine plastic ring will hurt a bit.
But-Don't tell me to shut up! You Shut up! I mean it.
Sit down and listen, it gets better.
    Really.
Look. In a few hours, after school, in the library , between the books, in the shadows where no one can see. by the cellophaned hardbacks and mystery novels: she will corner you and kiss you on the nose and call you stupid.
    Because she really liked that.
    Stupid…

    come one come all...

the "other" Naropian Greek, my homie Lexie, has informed me that there is a party tonight at Brendon's house at 952 Lincoln and Arapahoe...easy to get to...just head West past the library, make a left at Lincoln, Brendon's is the first house on the right corner...big backyard...

google generated poem (can't say Flarf!) read on the occasion of Kevin Kilroy moving to CHI party/ BBQ...

Like A Cross Between Kilroy And An Orange County Sheriff

    Loved grandmother of Laurie, Greg and Allison;
Kimberly who showed up at the local lumberyard
parking lot or hotel lobby meets the streetwise Vicki,
Old coot that he was, Can Kevin Bacon let go of
his predatory past in The Woodsman I’d be willing
To cut him some slack and of course Kilroy was out there
Somewhere probably licking his finger, and his job in the lumberyard
Consists of a variety of cars, paper plant and concrete plant
“Night time in the Switching Yard” is particularly inexplicable
and the physics of God Kilpatrick Kilroy the conventional
wisdom that pre-recorded phone calls the cover
shows Zappa rising out of a pool, like a cross between
Kilroy and an Orange County Sheriff
Has gigantic blue eyes and a pair of enormous Kitty Kilroy
Your mother has this crazy idea that gambling is wrong
To experience life as a thrilling pair of enormous
Yellow Oingoboingo Kilroy said of Bolton
“I’d really like to hear if I’m being a crazy, alienated, adolescent
about this,” you make me crazy President Ford
    And your Farmworth Freedom Fighters
The guys from Warp who now run kings, Nick
Kilroy he said, “as if Kilroy was here”
Don’t do that Kitty Kilroy this is just crazy to me
I’m building the wagon in the front yard right now, crazy
For crab, being prudent, wisdom world poker tour
It seems some bimbo flashed her earthbound misfit
Kevin has brought a grave matter to light
And is crazy for Bacon he told the Kansas City Star
“A Georgia deepwoods type of feeling”
